Private Swimming Lessons:
Private lessons are scheduled on an individual basis and the flexibility is great for families with a busy schedule. One-on-one attention is effective for adults, children with unique learning styles or anyone who wants to learn to swim at their own pace. This is based on instructor availability. Call the indoor pool for more information.

Swimming Lesson Descriptions
Parent n’ Tots (6 months to 36 months):
This program is designed to orient young children, along with their parents, to the water and prepare them for the next levels of swimming. This gives parents safety information and teaches techniques to help them orient their children to the water. It also provides direction regarding how to supervise water activities in a responsible manner. Parents are required to be in the water with their children. They are taught safely to work with their child in the water, including how to support and hold their child in the water and how to prepare and encourage their child to participate fully and try the skills.
Preschool (3 to 5 years of age):
This program helps children feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. Step I skills will be introduced, such as blowing bubbles, safely entering and exiting the water, floating and gliding, and swimming with a combination of arm and leg actions with assistance from the instructor. This will help the students be more prepared for the next steps in the swimming program.
Step I - Introduction to Water Skills:
There are no prerequisites for Step I. The objectives of Step I are to learn basic personal water safety information and skills, to help participants feel comfortable in the water, and to enjoy the water safely. Participants will learn elementary aquatic skills, such as floating, gliding, and breath control, which they will build on as they progress through the other steps in our “Pool School.” Participants will also learn to safely enter and exit the water independently and begin to learn to recover from floating and gliding into a vertical position.
Step II – Basic Aquatic Skills:
The objective of Step II is to give students success with fundamental skills. Participants learn to float without support and to recover to a vertical position. This step marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Participants continue to explore simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back to lay the foundation for future steps. The dolphin kick, scissor kick, and sidestroke will be introduced in this class. Participants will learn to step into chest deep water, perform front and back floats and return to a vertical position as well as swim on the front and back using a combined arm and leg action for 5 yards. Prerequisite: must have passed Step I or the equivalent.
Step III – Stroke Development:
The objectives of Step III are for participants to learn the survival float, the elementary back stroke, and to coordinate the front crawl. They will be introduced to the butterfly swimming stroke, diving, and treading water. Students will also be building on the fundamentals of the breaststroke, sidestroke, and rotary/rhythmic breathing. Participants will learn the rules on headfirst entries and begin to learn to enter the water head first from the side of the pool. Prerequisite: must have passed Step II or the equivalent.
Step IV – Advanced Water Skills:
The objectives of Step IV are to develop confidence in the strokes learned thus far and to improve other aquatic skills. Participants improve their skills and increase their endurance by working their way to perform each stroke (front crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, backstroke, and side stroke) 25 yards. Students will also be working towards swimming the butterfly 10 yards. Throwing and reaching assists will be introduced as well as shallow, pike, and tuck surface dives. Prerequisite: must have passed Step III or the equivalent.
$35.00 per student
